Sports Physicals in Oklahoma City: What Parents Need to Know Before School Starts
Everything Oklahoma parents need to know about sports physicals — what's checked, what to bring, how much they cost, and how to get one fast at a walk-in clinic in OKC.

If your student athlete is gearing up for fall sports, Oklahoma requires a current pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE) on file before they can step onto the field. Here's everything you need to know.
What's checked during a sports physical?
A sports physical is more than a quick check of height and weight. We screen for anything that could put your child at risk during competition, including:
- Heart and lung exam — listening for murmurs, irregular rhythms, or breathing issues.
- Vision and orthopedic screen — joints, range of motion, prior injuries.
- Vital signs and growth tracking.
- History review — concussions, asthma, family cardiac history, current medications.
- Vaccination status — a great time to catch up on Tdap, meningitis, HPV, or flu shots.
What to bring
- The school's PPE / clearance form (most OK schools use the OSSAA form).
- A valid photo ID for the parent.
- Insurance card.
- List of any current medications.
- Glasses or contacts if your athlete wears them.
How long does it take?
Most sports physicals take 15–20 minutes at our walk-in clinic. No appointment needed — just stop by during business hours.
How much does it cost?
Most insurance plans cover sports physicals as preventive care with no out-of-pocket cost. For uninsured families, we keep our self-pay rate affordable — call ahead and we'll quote you the current price.
Common reasons a physical gets flagged
Don't panic if your child needs follow-up. The most common reasons are:
- Elevated blood pressure (often "white coat" — we'll re-check)
- Heart murmur that needs an EKG
- Recent concussion needing additional clearance
- Uncontrolled asthma needing a tune-up
Each of these is something we can almost always sort out quickly so your athlete doesn't miss the season.
Beat the August rush
Every year the last two weeks of July and the first week of August get slammed with last-minute physicals. Come in June or early July if you can — shorter waits, more flexibility for follow-up if needed.
Walk in any time during clinic hours and we'll get your athlete cleared.
